Ginkel heath 19 September 2009 |
| What a memorial day on the Ginkel heath! 65 years after Market Garden I was for the first time eyewitness of the airborne dropping of 1000 paratroopers. I have never seen this before. The memorial service was held together with veterans, the national hymns of Holland, the United Kingdom and Poland was played and many military vehicles of Keep them Rolling were at present. The weather was beautifull. It was warm and sunny. A perfect condition to jump out of a plane. Mostly they jumped out of the Hercules, but also the Dakota. And that was most what remembered to September 1944, when under the same weather conditions, but at was, thousand of paratroopers jumped out of Dakota's. |
