Welcome
to ARS website, since 1999 on the Internet. Already since I was on high school I have
been interested in the history of
World War Two. History
was my favourite subject. After the school period
my interest for
history continued. Through the years I collected many books and
multimedia concerning the Second World War. I am member of
Documentatiegroep40-45. In
1994 made I my first battlefield tour
to the invasion beaches in Normandy, followed in
1999,
2001 and
2006. The coast of Normandy has been developed into an open air
museum. To me it was very impressive to stand on those historical
beaches. The last tour I made with the
Friends
of the Airborne museum in Oosterbeek, with whom I made also a
battlefield tour to the
Ardennes in
October 2004. We followed the advance of Kampfgruppe Peiper
during the last despair offensive. In 2005 I visited the
Obersalzberg. The house of Hitler, the Berghof does no
longer excist, but still you may see the house of Albert Speer and
hotel Zum Turken. Under the
Obersalzberg
there is a bunker scheme. The only real vestige however the
Kehlsteinhaus on the top of the Obersalzberg, can only be reached by
means of a long tunnel and an extremely luxurious lift.
In
2007 Battlefield Tour Market Garden
Grave to Nijmegen and
Lombok - Arnhem. In 2008 battlefield tour
Engeland and
Berlijn. In
2009 I made the following battlefield tours: July 4th
a walk through the
perimeter at Oosterbeek, 28-30 August battlefield tour
Huertgenforest.
Very special was the visit to the former
NS-Ordensburg Vogelsang.
This complex in typical Nazi-style, built of stone from the Eifel,
is still in original condition. September 12th
battlefield tour 'The Battle of Arnhem' was the beginning of a
remembrance week 65 years after Market Garden. September 19th
paradropping Ginkel heath, October 10th
Amersfoort concentration camp
and on October 29th Vught
concentrationcamp. Again a momentous year with several battlefield tours.
The young generation together with
veterans on Omaha Beach. They must never be forgotten!
Veterans on the Ginkel Heath, remembering
operation Market Garden.
This site is always under construction.
There is still so much to study and to discover about this breath
taking period in history:
World War Two.
Daily new books
and DVD's about World War Two are put on the market.
Recently on the Dutch television World War Two became actual again
by the series De Oorlog
presented by Rob
Trip (a follow up of
De Bezetting by
Loe de Jong
in 1960) and simultaneously the series
13 In de Oorlog
presented by Lisa Wade
This series was aimed at the youth.
I discover still new interesting sites on the internet. I have many books and DVD's to
watch and I hope to make battlefield tours again in 2010. For
example to the Grebbelinie.
Although I believe a new impressive decage is next in which we might
face an apocalypse with at least
the return of the Son of God Jesus
Christ on earth bringing peace forever, we must remember them, the
veterans, the victims, those who suffered and died in the
concentration camps. The Jews who were deportated and murdered. Let
us remember until the end of days. My contribution is to maintain
this site as long as it is possible. ARS Website is not only sharing
my interest with you but also a memorial. I hope you will soon
return to watch new items I put on ARS Website. In this new year I
hope to continue with battlefield tours, go to where it happened,
listen to what is told there. This crusial period in our world
history should never be forgotten.
