The Atlantic wall Museum Noordwijk is a museum, which is situated in an old German ammunition bunker to the Bosweg in Noordwijk. The bunker is equipped as exhibition space where, among other things, more than 200 photos are to carry out an inspection.
During the second world war, around 180 German marines were stationed in the Northern dune area at Noordwijk. They built the "Battery", a piece of Noordwijk, of the German Atlantic wall, which ran from Norway to the French/Spanish frontier. In total there were some 80 in Noordwijk work constructed, which is still present under the sand. This bunker ranged from wooden douch buildings to heavy bunker with three-metre thick walls.
The largest bunker by the Germans in this area was built was a S414 fire three-storey leader. For the construction of this bunker was 1800 cubic metres of concrete were used. There was a specially built railway line. In addition to the museum is a system of corridors connecting different bunker, such as the great fire, three fire leaders, an ammunition bunker and various live bunkers.
After the second world war the guns were removed and scrapped. Due to the lack of supervision, the bunker was a great playground for children.
In the
1970s the bunkers were closed and hidden under the sand. The large ammunition
bunker remained and was used as bunker during the Cold War to a threat of war
against the Soviet ..jpg)
In 2001 the Atlantic wall Museum Noordwijk Foundation was established with the aim of the bunker of the "Battery Noordwijk" to preserve, protect, and to set up as a museum. Since 2004, this museum has been opened for public. On 8 October 2004 they began to remove the sand from the system of corridors . On 5 May 2007, this system of corridors for the first time opened to the public. In July 2009, the Atlantic wall Museum Noordwijk has over 16,000 visitors, many of them young people and school children. At the end of 2007 the museum received a number of Rommel asparagus, which were found near the boulevard in Noordwijk. These barriers were placed in March 2008 and weighing more than 10 000 kg per piece, the dimensions are: 3.2 m x 1.2 m x 1.2 m.
In 2010, is approximately 450 feet of all corridors opened to the public. For the remainder of approximately 70 metres in northern direction waiting on authorization of the commune.
On Sunday 20 June 2010 I also visited the bunkers. There was a very exciting tour through the bunker hidden beneath the dunes. Look at the pictures I made and the video I recorded.
